Star Wars: A New Hype

A differing opinion of Star Wars that I was asked to create as part of my university course.

It’s pretty safe to say that it is one of the most anticipated films of 2015 as Star Wars: The Force Awakens is due to hit cinemas next week. But are people too excited for it?

Let’s be honest, Star Wars is something that everyone knows and a lot of people love but I’m not sure it is a film that is going to satisfy everyone. The problem is, people loved the first three films so much that anything that is made after this will not match the original trilogy, yet people still hope they will.

This hope will inevitably then be destroyed when watching the film as fans wont have that original feeling of enjoyment and excitement as they first did when watching Star Wars. Of course, they’ll enjoy it to an extent and pick up little bits they liked but then follows the repetitive reviews of ‘oh I wish they did this’ and ‘oh I wish they added that’.

Then there’s the matter of Disney to attend to. Disney films are associated with children, that much is true. So will this mean that Star Wars will get the Disney treatment? By this I don’t mean we should expect to see Chewbacca singing ‘The Wookie Necessities’, but it might mean Star Wars may be tailored more towards a childlike audience. This of course is not for certain, but the transition is entirely possible.

There is no reason that people should not be excited. It’s a great thing for the franchise to come back. It will certainly be interesting to see whether the film gets the same reaction as the prequels did because based on public reaction, they weren’t very good films.

I don’t for one moment believe that this new chapter in the galaxy far far away will be awful, I just don’t want to fool myself into thinking it’s going to be the best Star Wars film so far.
